The Museum of Aviation's Annual Half-Marathon and 5K Run/Walk takes place Saturday, Jan. 14 starting at 8 a.m.

Lane Closure, Resurfacing Scheduled in Twiggs County

 

SR 19 is scheduled for resurfacing from Monday, Jan. 9 through Friday, Jan. 13.

The resurfacing takes place on SR 19 southbound between Prospect Church Road and the Wilkinson County line.

Expect a single lane closure for the continued resurfacing of SR 19.

Delays are expected.

This project is resurfacing 9.340 miles of SR 19 beginning at SR 18 in Twiggs County and continues to the Wilkinson County line.

Online Survey Helps GDOT Connect Central Georgia

Georgia Department of Transportation is conducting an online survey to determine Central Georgia's transportation needs.

The purpose of the study: 

 this study will be the first holistic look at traffic and goods movement across this portion of the state and will build off of the accomplishments and lessons learned from previous transportation studies. The study includes thorough analysis of operational and capacity needs to improve safety, freight movements, person mobility, and connectivity across Central Georgia through the year 2035.

A Prescription Is Not a License to Drive Impaired

A prescription does not give you a license to drive impaired. 

The nation has seen a decline in the numbers of people killed or injured as a result of drunk driving.

But it is now time that we recognize and address the similar dangers that can occur with drugged driving.

Prescription drugs have grown to the second most abused type of drug in the country after marijuana, according to the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

State: Exit 24 Off I-16 E To Close For Paving

State: Exit 24 Off I-16 E To Close For Paving

The Georgia Department of Transportation says it will temporarily close Exit 24 off I-16 eastbound for paving work.

The scheduled closures are:

Tuesday, Dec. 13: 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

12:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 to 12:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15.

According to the DOT, the contractor is performing concrete pavement rehabilitation on I-16 on all lanes in each direction beginning at SR 96 (Exit 24) in Twiggs County, continuing through Bleckley County to a point east of SR 278 in Laurens County.

Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this or any other construction project on interstates and state routes.
