Museum of Aviation to Get Unmanned Aerial Vehicle


The Museum of Aviation is slated to receive an RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft that has flown more than 7,000 combat hours in the war on terrorism - more than any other Global Hawk.

That's according to a Museum of Aviation news release.

 The aircraft, #2011, recently retired from active Air Force operational use and is coming to the museum for preservation and display. The Museum of Aviation is only the second museum in the Air Force to obtain a Global Hawk – the first being the National Museum of U.S. Air Force in Dayton Ohio. It is expected to arrive at Robins Air Force Base aboard a C-5 Galaxy cargo airplane during the week of September 5 and be transported to the Museum of Aviation to eventually be put in an elevated display in the Century of Flight Hangar.

Parade Honors Local Hero, Welcomes Home

Saturday, 3 September 2011, a parade to honor Tony and his family begins noon. 

The parade route begins at the corner of Commerce St and Progress Ave going East.

The parade route passes Veterans Park and continues on West on Broad St.

The main event will be held in the gym at the Hawkinsville High School located on Red Devil Drive. 

A meet and greet will follow the speaking event.

During the Meet and Greet, entertainment will be provided by DJ BS Music “Brian Smith”.

Plan to join in food and fun while  welcoming a wounded warrior HOME.

Expected I-16 Ramp Closure

I-16 East and Westbound ramp closures are scheduled for this weekend.

That's according to a Georgia Department of Transportation news release.

Those closures take place at Exit 32, on both east and westbound ramps starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 26 until 6 a.m. on Monday, August 29.

3-Day Paddle Event Celebrates Ocmulgee River Blue Way


The Georgia Canoeing Association and The Georgia Conservancy hosts a 3-day Fall Paddle on the Ocmulgee River from October 7 through 9 in Hawkinsville.

You can participate in one of the days or all three days.

The event serves to promote the nwe 54-mile Ocmulgee River Blue Way from Twiggs County to Pulaski County.

Paddles launch at Miles Branch Landing at the Hawkinsville Pulaski County Riverfront Park on S. Jackson St. in Hawkinsville.

Georgia's June Unemployment Rate by County

Twiggs County Unemployment rate in June: 11.2 percent.

That's according to a Georgia Department of Labor news release.


The lowest area rate, at 8.0 percent, was recorded in Warner Robins, while the highest, at 12.8 percent, was in the Heart of Georgia-Altamaha area near Dublin. 

Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 9.9 percent in June, up one-tenth of a percentage point from a revised 9.8 percent in May. The state’s jobless rate was 10 percent in June a year ago.

June marked the 47th consecutive month Georgia has exceeded the national unemployment rate, which is currently 9.2 percent, up from 9.1 percent in May. 

License Plate Revote Opens Monday


ATLANTA (AP) -- The public is again invited to weigh in on Georgia's new license plate design. 

Online voting will reopen at 3 p.m. Monday.

Gov. Nathan Deal had planned to announce the winner of an earlier design contest last Friday, but the state scrapped its plans over public confusion on whether the motto "In God We Trust" would be on the plate.
