Twiggs County Jobless Rate Released

Twiggs County Jobless Rate Released

The jobless rate for Twiggs County in December 2012 was 12.4 percent.

Twiggs County was one of 67 Georgia counties that had a jobless rate of 10 percent or greater.

The jobless rate in December 2012 was also up for metro Macon.

According to a state news release, unemployment rose to 9.2 percent from November's 8.7 percent rate, but it was down from December 2011 when the rate was 9.5 percent.

Officials claim the rise comes from a combination of factors, including a "slight increase" in new layoffs and a reduction in the area work force.

The uptick reflects a similar statewide trend. However, the jobless rate across Georgia only rose one-tenth of percentage point while metro Macon's rate jumped five-tenths of a percentage point.

Twiggs High Organizations "Adopted" Family for the Holidays

Twiggs County High School organizations came together during Christmas to Adopt a Family as a community service project.

Students involved in the Twiggs County High Scool Career, Technical and Agricultural Education Department, FBLA, FFA and AFJROTC collected nonperishable food, toys and clothing throughout December.

Three days before Christmas, Family and Children Services picked up the items and delivered the goods to a family.

Welcoming 2013: Making the Most of the New Year

Welcoming 2013: Making the Most of the New Year

Today is my first day in the office for 2013. I intentionally took time off over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays to step back from work, enjoy my family and clear my head. Now I’m back and ready to hit the ground running! How about you?

In the past I’ve never been much of a believer in writing down my goals or making them for that matter. It all seemed a little woo-woo and out there. However in 2012 I worked with a wonderful organizer and business coach Paris Love (www.parisloveinstitute.com) who convinced me of the importance of setting goals.

Book Organization: Murder in the Bedroom

Book Organization: Murder in the Bedroom

Recently I was listening to a National Association of Professional Organizers’ conference presentation by Debbie Bowie about using feng shui in the organizing process.  Whether you believe in the validity of this ancient Eastern practice or not, there are definitely some good ideas that came from this talk.  One of the things Debbie spoke about was items in your home having static energy, meaning they don't add anything good to the life of your home or to your life in general.  One group of the items she discussed as a static force in the home was books. Now books tend to be one of my vices.  I like to collect them and I love to go to used book sales but currently I am trying to cut back on the actual physical books that are in my house. As a result I have taken to reading a lot of books on my iPad.
