Tuesday marks Election Day.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

When you go to vote, be sure to take your Georgia license, passport or military photo ID. You'll need to show that before voting.

If you need to doublecheck your polling location, enter your information and the database will show you where you're registered.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that the preliminary unemployment rate in Twiggs County was 10.8 percent in May.

Twiggs is one of 67 Georgian counties above 10 percent.

That's compared to Georgia's overall unemployment rate of 8.9 percent.

Metro Macon rose to 9.4 percent in May, up three-tenths of a percentage point from 9.1 percent in April, a Georgia Department of Labor news release says.

The rate was 10.1 percent in May 2011. 

Overall, Georgia's unemployment rate remained unchanged from April to May in 2011 and is down from May 2010, where the unemployment rate was 9.8 percent.

A ceremony  dedicating a new bridge honors Richard Lynn Daniels Tuesday.

The ceremony will be a dedication ceremony naming the future new bridge at the interchange of I-16 and Hwy 96 the Richard Lynn Daniels Memorial Bridge.  All are invited out to this event. There will be drinks and refreshments supplied by the Friends of the Twiggs County Sheriff's Office.
