The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that the preliminary unemployment rate in Twiggs County was 10.8 percent in May.
Twiggs is one of 67 Georgian counties above 10 percent.
That's compared to Georgia's overall unemployment rate of 8.9 percent.
Metro Macon rose to 9.4 percent in May, up three-tenths of a percentage point from 9.1 percent in April, a Georgia Department of Labor news release says.
The rate was 10.1 percent in May 2011.
Overall, Georgia's unemployment rate remained unchanged from April to May in 2011 and is down from May 2010, where the unemployment rate was 9.8 percent.
