Judge Orders Lawyers Fees in Twiggs Land Case | News
A Twiggs County judge has ruled that a Colorado man who sued dozens of Dry Branch landowners must now pay a large bill for their lawyers fees.
Allan Evans argued that his family was the true owner of more than 400 acres in Twiggs County, and lost.
Tuesday, Judge Jon Helton ruled that Evans will have to pay more than $100,000 in lawyer's fees.
Attorneys representing the landowners and other companies who were sued said they racked up hundreds of hours of work because the case dragged on for months.
Landowner Teresa Russell says many of her neighbors live day to day, and were burdened by having to pay for a lawyer and attending hearings in a case that they call frivolous.
Evans did not appear in court Tuesday, but filed an appeal in the ruling last Friday.
Attorney Randall Harrison says they plan on doing everything they can to make sure Evans pays them, including notifying the state of Colorado if necessary.
