Colorado Man Makes Case for Twiggs County Land

A Colorado man is representing himself in court today, arguing that he and his family are the rightful owners of about 400 acres in Twiggs County.

Allan Evans of Wheat Ridge, Colo. is making his case before a special master appointed to hear the case.

Evans argues that land records were lost or destroyed some time in the past century. During Thursday's hearing, his case seemed to be based mostly on family tradition and hearsay.

But 35 homes, a Baptist church and the sheriff's department's shooting range now stand on the land that Evans says belongs to his family.

A team of lawyers hired by the current property owners argued against Evans.

Evans today estimated the value of the land at about $4 million, but opposing lawyers disputed that.

Dublin lawyer Jim Nelson was appointed a special master to hear the dispute.
