GBI called in to help investigate Twiggs teacher
News

ID=25405629A GBI spokesman says they've been asked to help investigate allegations against a Twiggs County teacher and coach.

Superintendent Elgin Dixon says Fredrick Baker has resigned, but could not say when. He said the Twiggs County school board is scheduled to act on Baker's resignation tonight.

Dixon said "any allegations" have been referred to the appropriate agency, but he declined to describe the complaints against him.

When asked about Baker's departure, J.T. Ricketson of the GBI's Perry office said, "We were asked by the Twiggs County Sheriffs Department to assist them with a criminal investigation concerning a teacher."

He also declined to explain and would not confirm Baker's name. Captain Chip Stokes of the sheriff's office said the GBI and campus police have been interviewing people Tuesday at the school but he also would provide any further details.

According to the school's website, Baker is a credit-recovery teacher, who assists students who fall behind, and the varsity basketball coach. Dixon said he was an employee for two years.

Baker could not be reached for comment.
