Spring Fling Day 16: Cups & Water Bottles

Spring Fling Day 16: Cups & Water Bottles

Welcome to the Spring Fling. Join us every day in April to start flinging the clutter from your life!

Does your family only use coffee cups and Tervis tumblers? Is your youngest child 12 years old but there are still sippy cups on the shelves? It’s time to fling the glasses and cups you don’t use. This will allow for the glasses you do like to use and it will keep them from tumbling out of the cupboard whenever you open the door.  Then go through your water bottle collection. Toss the ones with no lids and chewed up tops. Whittle the number of water bottles down to reasonable amount.

Now go flinging!  Please come back and tell me how many cups and water bottles you were able to fling today.

Spring Fling Day 14: Contacts

Spring Fling Day 14: Contacts

Welcome to the Spring Fling. Join us every day in April to start flinging the clutter from your life!

Today I want you to browse through your contact list on your computer/phone or your paper address book. Go through and delete people that you no longer are in contact with. There’s no need to slog through 100 names and addresses when you no longer need 20 of those names.  If you use a paper address book and have a lot of changes to make, consider getting a new one and starting over fresh.

Spring Fling Day 13: Clothes Hangers

Spring Fling Day 13: Clothes Hangers

Welcome to the Spring Fling. Join us every day in April to start flinging the clutter from your life!

Today go through your closet and gather all the empty hangers into one spot. Do you have way more than you’ll ever use? If so, put them in your donation bag. If you don’t have enough, put hangers on your shopping list.  If some are broken, discard them.

If you want to get extra credit, convert all of your hangers to the same time (slimline, tube, wooden, whatever works for you). Do this process in the coat closet and other clothes closets around the house.

Now go flinging! Please come back and tell me how many hangers you were able to fling today.

Spring Fling Day 1 - Coats & Jackets

Spring Fling Day 1 - Coats & Jackets

Welcome to the Spring Fling. Join us every day in April to start flinging the clutter from your life!

Let’s start flinging with your coats and jackets. Go through your closets and fling the coats that have been outgrown, are getting ratty or you just plain don’t wear anymore. And let’s face it, as cold has it has been this winter, if you have jackets you haven’t worn, you probably aren’t going to. If you have speciality coats like ski jackets that you wear infrequently, don’t let them take up vital real estate in your hall closet. Move them to an extra room or box them up and put them in the attic.

Now go flinging!  Please come back and tell me how many coats and jackets you were able to fling today.

There's An App for That: Evernote

There's An App for That: Evernote

Evernote has become one of my favorite apps. I use it to store all kinds of information that I will want to retrieve later, things such as a great recipe from a friend, screenshots of other websites I am inspired by as I revamp my own website, and quotes that I want to remember. Basically Evernote is now my go-to spot to save anything I am going to need later.

Paper Purge: How Long Do I Need To Keep It? Part 1

Paper Purge: How Long Do I Need To Keep It? Part 1

The eternal question is how long do I keep this piece of paper. We worry that we may need it someday. Here are some guidelines for some of the main kinds of paper we all deal with.

Bank Records - One year, unless you need the records for your tax filings. Then you’ll need to keep them as supporting tax documents for seven years.

Paper Purge: Toss Your Phone Books

Be honest how often do you use the traditional phone book and yet you keep the 6 that seem to show up on your doorstep every year. Most people are more likely to pull out their smart phone to look up a phone number than the yellow pages.
