Don't Resolve to Get Organized This Year
Don't Resolve to Get Organized This Year

Did you resolve to “get organized” in 2014? Would you think I was crazy if I told you, please don’t make that your resolution? No, really. The general idea of “getting organized” can be so overwhelming that you put the brakes on your forward progress before you even begin.

My suggestions would be to instead pick 1-3 areas of life that you would like to have less cluttered and more simplified. Perhaps you need a more streamlined morning routine or maybe your kitchen is overflowing with pots, pans and plates and the junk drawer is threatening to get its own zip code. Then break one of those areas into small, completable projects. So in the kitchen example, you might want to start by pulling everything out from underneath the sink, trashing what you don’t need or use, relocating items that can be stored elsewhere, wiping it out and neatly put things back in. Another time tackle the junk drawer.  When the kitchen is in good shape, move on to another area that needs your attention.

Celebrate small successes, don’t get discouraged by backsliding and realize that your clutter didn’t show up overnight so it won’t completely disappear overnight. It’s a process and I know if you take it in small steps, it will be a great success!
