26th Annual Greg Couey Cystic Fibrosis Golf Tournament | Events
Local Middle Georgia Families and business host the 26th Annual Greg Couey Cystic Fibrosis Golf Tournament. The first tournament was organized by families who were effected or touched in some way by Cystic Fibrosis in 1987 and is held each year at the Riverview Golf Course in Dublin Georgia. This year’s tournament will be held on October 5th 2013.
Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States. In the 1950s few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s or 40s. There are about 1,000 new cases of CF diagnosed each year in the U.S. More than 70% of all patients are diagnosed by age two. More than 45% of CF patient population is 18 or older. The predicted median age of survival for a person with CF is in the late 30s. (Information obtained from www.ccf.org).
The tournament is a 4 man scramble. Start times are 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. There are 4 flights and teams compete for a first place prize of 4 rib-eye loins, and second place prize of 4 pork loins, and a third place prize of 4 country hams. Entry fee for a team is $240.00. There will be a hole in one contest for cash, two four wheelers, and two vehicles. Also one golfer each will be drawn from the morning and afternoon sessions. Those two golfers will have the chance to win $2,500 in a putting contest. In the hole in one contest one golfer each will be drawn from the morning and afternoon sessions and they will have the chance to win $100,000 in a hole-in-one contest.
Please come out and help us find a cure for cystic fibrosis. There are several ways to contribute as a player or a sponsored business. You can enter or sponsor a four man team in the tournament, become a hole sponsor for $200, make a donation, or become a volunteer. The tournament is sponsored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and 100% proceeds are donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for research to find a cure.
