Turkey Season Opens Saturday

The turkey hunting season opens Saturday, March 24, a Georgia Department of Natural Resources news release says.

To go turkey hunting, you'll need a valid hunting license and big game license to legally hunt turkeys in Georgia. If you're on a Wildlife Management Area, you'll also need a WMA license. You can buy licenses online, at a retail license vendor or by phone at 1-800-366-2661.

If planning to hunt on private land, you'll need permission from the landowner first.

There is a limit to turkey hunting: only male turkeys can be hunted and the season bag limit is three turkeys per hunter.

Friends of the Sheriff's Office Meeting Update

 The Friends of the Twiggs County Sheriff's Office held their March meeting on March 1st 2012 at 6:00PM at the Sheriff's Office. 

 The Friends of agreed to pay $250 for the annual Sheriff's Office Easter Egg Hunt to be held on March 31st at the county pond property.  The Friends also approved to pay for departmental polo shirts for all the 911 dispatchers and office staff.  Payment pending so that Major McDaniel can submit an invoice.

An invoice was submitted to the Friends of to pay for an entrance rug with the Sheriff's Office logo.  Invoice submitted was for $226.00. The Friends of made a total of $1,815.00 on the gun raffle.The raffle was held and the winner was Mr. Casey Carden of Danville Ga. ………..Congratulations.

The Friends of the Twiggs County Sheriff's Office is sponsoring a rifle raffle.

On March 1st, 2012 the Friends of the Twiggs County Sheriff's Office are raffling off a Remington Model 887 Nitro Mag 28 in barrel chamber 2 ¾ to  3 ½ .  

Tickets for the raffle at $5 a piece and can be purchased from Jamie McDaniels at the Sheriff's Office, by attending our general membership meeting on March the 1st at 6 p.m. (at the Sheriff's Office).

Geico Road Race to Benefit Special Olympics

A benefit for the Georgia Special Olympics, The Geico 5K Road Race, is set for Saturday, March 3rd. 

The fun starts at 9 a.m.

I-16 Lane Closes for Guardrail Repair

An I-16 lane is scheduled to be closed for guardrail repair starting on Wednesday, February 29 through Saturday, March 3 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The lane will be closed on I-16 east and westbound between mile markers 3, near Exit 2 MLK Jr. Blvd. and mile marker 20, near Exit 18 Jeffersonville/Bullard Rd.
