Ice storm brings power outages | Environment
Georgia utility companies say more than 177,000 customers were without power as ice coated trees brought branches and power lines down.
Georgia Power reported that more than 104,000 customers were without power shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday.
More than 71,000 of them were in metro Atlanta. Another 29,000 customers were in eastern Georgia; and 1,340 were without power in parts of west Georgia.

More than 2,000 customers were without power in the Macon area. A few hundred more outages were in northwest Georgia and 700 in Jones County.
John Kraft, Georgia Power spokesman said there are about 4,960 outages reported in Central Georgia, including 655 in Bibb County, 1,300 in Jones County, 565 in Twiggs and 143 in Baldwin.
Tri-County EMC says it's dealing with approximately 2,335 power outages around central Georgia. Most of those outages, 1,344, are in Jones County. There are 562 in Baldwin County and 358 in Putnam County.
