The Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Danville Georgia is attempting to charter a Cub Scout troop in the Danville area of Twiggs County.  Mt. Zion and some members have formed a committee that has been meeting with the Boy Scout Council of Macon Georgia in an effort to organize the troop.  The plan is to first form a cub scout program that will develop into a Boy Scout program.  The Cub Scout program is open to boys in grades 1st through 5th.  The next planned meeting is Monday November 12th at 6pm at the social hall of Mt. Zion Baptist Church located at the intersection of Hwy 358 and I-16 in Danville Georgia.  The committee is in search of committee members, den leaders, and a cub master.  The leaders are not only limited to males, females are encouraged to become den mothers and committee members as well.  If you have any questions or would like to become a volunteer please contact Jamie McDaniel at 478-955-9164. 

The City hosts its first annual Harvest Festival Friday to Sunday, 26-28 October.

This family-friendly community event offers a carnival with rides for the children and "festival" food, a super parade on Saturday at 11:00, arts and crafts vendor booths, the United States Air Force Reserve Band, Mercer's Jazz Band, and other must-see entertainment throughout the weekend.

A 5K Run And See Georgia race, "Race to the Center," begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday. So be sure you RACE TO THE CENTER -- the geodesic center of the State of Georgia.
