Metro Macon Gained 500 Jobs in February

The Georgia Department of Labor says  February unemployment declined to nine percent in metro Macon.

According to a release, that's down from February 2012, when unemployment for metro Macon was 10 percent.

From January to February, metro Macon gained 500 jobs and fewer people were laid off.

Most jobs were added in the professional, business, education, health care, trade, transportation, warehousing, leisure and hospitality industries as well as in in local government.

Metro Macon includes Bibb, Crawford, Jones, Monroe and Twiggs counties.

Stock car races were rained out at Dublin-441 Speedway last Sat. Mar. 23rd.  This week race # 3 of the Pure Stock Mini Series will be presented along with regular racing in Late Model, Super Street, Bomber, Pure Stock & 440's.  Also, the Easter  Bunny  will arrive at the speedway  around 7 p.m. and remain there until 10:00 p.m. 

The Bunny will give out prizes to all young kids, including a bonus prize to some little one.

Bring the kids enjoy the Bunny and racing on Ga's. Finest 3/8 mile dirt oval!!! Gates open at 5, with racing at 7 p.m. Reg. adm: Adults-$10.00, & kids $5.00 for bleachers. $25.00 for adults, & $10.00 for kids in pits. Call for Entries for the 30th Annual Oconee Artists Exhibition

Allied Arts is currently accepting entries for the 30th  annual Oconee Artists Exhibition.

The Oconee Artists Exhibition is an annual juried exhibition open to adult artists in the central Georgia area. The six eligible categories are drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Artists may submit up to three works; entry forms must be postmarked by Friday, April 19 or delivered to Allied Arts, 201 North Wayne Street, Milledgeville, Ga. 31061.

Best-In-Show awards will consist of a First Place prize of $150, a Second Place prize of $100 and a Third Place prize of $75.  The top entries in each category will be awarded a Certificate of Merit if the juror feels it is warranted.

Museum of Aviation Registering for Summer Camps

Museum of Aviation Registering for Summer Camps

 

The Museum of Aviation is gearing up for the vacation months with a full list of summer camps in June and July for PreK through 8th graders. 

The camps will be held Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to noon and are $125.00 each.  Mission Quest Flight Simulation Camps are $150.00 each. 

Attendees must register in advance for all camps and spaces fill up quickly, according to Cindy Groves, Museum Education Department Instructor.  Registration forms are available online at www.moaeducation.com. For information call (478) 222-7575 or email cgroves@museumofaviation.org.
