Sheriff Bittick warns Monroe Countians about a scam making its way through Georgia.

He says scammers have found a new way to take victims' money.

A new scam is making its way through Georgia and Sheriff John Cary Bittick is warning all citizens not to fall victim to this most recent scam.

As with most scams, the latest involves the victim turning money over to a stranger. But since most victims have learned the hard way that money shouldn’t be wired or transferred to an unknown bank account or banking institution, scammers have found a new way to take victims’ money.

(WXIA) -- Few foods say "summer" like baby back ribs, and Shane's Rib Shack wants to celebrate the change in seasons with free summertime food.

On Saturday, May 17, participating Shane's Rib Shack locations will give away a free half-rack of baby back ribs and a 20-ounce drink to the first 100 customers. The lucky diners will also receive rib giveaway T-shirts.

"Our fifth annual rib giveaway provides us the opportunity to say thank you to all of our loyal customers and fans who have made Shane's Rib Shack what it is today," chain founder and president Shane Thompson said in a release.

UGA extension releases cotton weed control guidelines

The Dooly County UGA extension has released programs for Controlling Glyphosate Resistant Palmer Amaranth in Cotton.

In a blog post, Jay Porter says it's important for "not just the present, but for the future of weed control in cotton."

Porter warns that not closely following the guidelines could prevent cotton growth in the future.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a regulation Monday requiring all vehicles, including trucks and buses, to have rear-view visibility -- in effect, requiring rear-view cameras.

The rule applies to all vehicles under 10,000 pounds -- from the smallest subcompact to commercial vans.
