Twiggs County Cub Scouts Attend Day Camp | Community Spirit
The Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cub Scouts, Pack 962, attended Cub Scout Day Camp at the Laurens Baptist Association in Dublin Georgia from June 12th through June 15th.
The camp was full of fun and adventure with a purpose. At the firing range the boys were given lessons on gun safety. With the use of BB guns the boys were schooled on how to handle a firearm and properly shoot the weapon. By the end of day four all of the boys were shooting bulls eyes. Also at the range the boys were able to shoot bow and arrows, and slingshots.
A reptile expert demonstrated snakes, lizards, and turtles. A real gold miner brought with him dirt that came from North Georgia and showed the boys how to pan for gold. The gold the boys found they were able to keep. A Forest Ranger from the U.S. Forestry talked to the boys on forest management and how the timber industry is so important to us here in Georgia. He also demonstrated firefighting equipment and techniques used by the Forestry. The boys made a different type of craft every day in the craft shop. They took part each day in a flag raising and lowering ceremony.
The last day of camp was family day. The scouts grilled out and ate with their families. A water side was on hand to cool the boys off in the hot sun. Family members were shown the crafts the boys made each day and they also showed off their marksman skills they had learned throughout the week on BB guns, bows, and slingshots. Camp ended with a flag retirement ceremony in which all he boys took part and had a roll in the program.
Overall the boys would tell you they had a really good time, made a lot of new friends, learned some new life skills, and made some fond memories.
