A Jeffersonville woman was sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for defrauding the government and her employer of more than a half-million dollars.
A news release from the U.S. Attorney's office says Jackie Elvine, also known as Jackie Young, was sentenced Wednesday to 63 months by federal Judge Marc Treadwell. In January, she pleaded guilty to health-care fraud, aiding in preparing a false return and false claims against the government.
According to the news release, Treadwell ordered her to pay $372,008.88 in restitution.
The U.S. Attorney's office says Elvine, 39, started a tax-preparation service in Jeffersonville, Young's Financial Billing Service, and prepared hundreds of false returns from 2008-2010.
At least 61 of those included fraudulent tax credits for first-time home buyers, the release says. Those claims totaled $283,683.
